The Giants placed Bailey on the 7-day concussion IL on Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday. Bailey missed the Giants' last two games due to an illness, and he met with a team doctor Monday to determine whether or not his illness was related to the concussion he suffered earlier in May. He will now return to the concussion IL and will be eligible to return to action Sunday, though the Giants will likely be more cautious this time around before inserting him back into their lineup. Blake Sabol will take over as San Francisco's primary catcher while Bailey is out, and Marco Luciano will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to fill the open roster spot.... See More ... See Less

Giants' Patrick Bailey: Visiting with team doctor
Bailey is being evaluated by the team doctor Monday to determine if his cold is related to a concussion he suffered earlier in the season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants are operating with caution to ensure Bailey doesn't require an extended absence. He'll be considered day-to-day until the club has more information. Blake Sabol and Jakson Reetz will see time behind the dish until Bailey is cleared for game action.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Dealing with illness
Bailey was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Reds due to a viral illness, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey was a late removal from the team's lineup ahead of their series finale with Cincinnati, which is now understood to have been the result of an illness. If the catcher is forced to miss any further time, Blake Sabol will likely operate as the team's exclusive catcher.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Scratched from lineup Sunday
Bailey has been scratched from the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Reds, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey was set to start at DH and bat in the cleanup spot, but he has since been removed from the lineup. Wilmer Flores will take over as the designated hitter Sunday and will bat fourth against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Batting third in return
Bailey (concussion) was activated from the 7-day injured list Saturday and is starting behind the dish and hitting third against the Reds. Bailey hit .278 with three home runs and one steal in 25 games prior to suffering a concussion May 3. He should take on the primary catcher role going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Lands on concussion IL
The Giants placed Bailey on the 7-day concussion injured list Saturday. Bailey left Friday's game against the Phillies after he was struck in the mask by a foul tip off the bat in the first inning. Tom Murphy is slated to take over as the primary catcher in Bailey's absence, while Blake Sabol was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday to provide backstop depth.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Exits with blurred vision
Bailey was removed from Friday's game against the Phillies due to blurred vision, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Bailey was struck in the face mask by a foul tip off the bat of Alec Bohm during the first inning of Friday's contest and was later replaced by Tom Murphy in the second frame. The Giants are still in the process of evaluating Bailey, but an update on his status may become available after the game.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Exits Friday's game
Bailey (foot) left in the second inning of Friday's game against the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Bailey took a foul ball off his mask in the first inning. He initially remained in the game but was replaced for the top of the second inning by Tom Murphy.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Resting Wednesday
Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey will get a breather Wednesday after he had caught each of the Giants' last six games. Tom Murphy will fill in for Bailey behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Homers, doubles twice Saturday
Bailey went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Diamondbacks. It's the second time in Bailey's relatively brief big-league career that he's tallied three extra-base hits in one game, as he had two doubles and a triple in a contest last June in Colorado. The four hits also tied a career high, as he did it once before last May in Milwaukee. Bailey's home run Saturday was a 407-foot shot which found McCovey Cove beyond the right-field stands.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Picks up first steal
Bailey went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins. Bailey's steal was his first of 2024, matching his total from 97 contests in 2023. As a catcher, speed is often not high on the list of priorities. He's cooled off after posting three multi-hit efforts over his first five games this season, but Bailey is still batting .286 with a .765 OPS, one home run, four RBI, three runs scored and two doubles over 51 plate appearances.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Resting Sunday
Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Bailey had caught both of the Giants' previous two contests, so he's likely just getting a maintenance day for the series finale. Tom Murphy will step in behind the dish in Bailey's stead.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Sitting out Wednesday
Bailey is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It's a routine day of rest for the Giants' top catcher. Tom Murphy will be behind the plate for Jordan Hicks on Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Goes deep in loss
Bailey went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. Bailey accounted for two of San Francisco's five hits in the contest, and he produced the team's first run with his solo shot in the third inning. The backstop has collected multiple hits in three of his five games so far and is slashing .375/.444/.563 through 19 plate appearances. Bailey is locked in as the Giants' primary backstop, but he'll need to show a longer run of offensive success to make more than a ripple in fantasy circles after he slashed just .233/.285/.359 with a 28.3 percent strikeout rate over 353 plate appearances as a rookie last year.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Gets Monday off
Bailey isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey has collected two hits in two of his first three games of the season, but he'll get a breather in the first game of the series against LA unless he's called upon to pinch hit. Tom Murphy draws the start behind the dish and will bat sixth in Bailey's place.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Sitting Saturday
Bailey isn't in the Giants' lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Giants' Patrick Bailey: Day-to-day with hand injury
Manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Bailey (hand) will be unavailable to play for a few days, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bailey avoided any fractures when he took a foul ball off his right hand in Cactus League action Tuesday, but he's dealing with some swelling and discoloration and is unable to make a fist. He'll undergo treatment and will rest a bit before returning to spring games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Takes seat Friday
Bailey is out of the lineup Friday against the Dodgers. Blake Sabol will catch and bat eighth for the Giants. Bailey has enjoyed some promising stretches this season, but the 24-year-old is slashing just .127/.172/.146 with 21 strikeouts in 58 plate appearances since the beginning of September.... Giants' Patrick Bailey: Back from concussion IL
Bailey was activated from the 7-day concussion injured list Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. With his concussion symptoms subsided, Bailey has rejoined the Giants following a minimum absence and will do his best to aid the club in its quest for a playoff spot. Joey Bart was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat Friday
Bailey is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest against Atlanta, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Atlanta is starting Spencer Strider, so Bailey probably didn't put up too much of a fight when he was told he was getting a day off. Blake Sabol will do the catching for Logan Webb.... See More ...
