The Mets parted ways with minor-league catcher Landon Powell on Friday, according to ESPN. Powell hit .159 with two homers and three RBI in 69 at-bats at Triple-A Las Vegas.
The Mets made their final round of roster cuts in preparation for the upcoming season, by reassigning catcher Landon Powell and shortstop Omar Quintanilla to their minor-league camp. New York also optioned pitcher Robert Carson to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The New York Daily News reported on Wednesday that Anthony Recker will serve as the backup catcher for the Mets to begin the season. Landon Powell also was competing to backup starter John Buck.
