  • Dodgers' Friedman on Juan Jaime: 'He can really miss bats'

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman spoke Wednesday about pitcher Juan Jaime, who was acquired from the Braves along with three others players in a six-man deal earlier in the day and assigned to extended spring training, MLB.com reports. "He can really miss bats," Friedman said. "The limiting factor with him is the control. So we'll send him to Camelback and really attack the problem. If he can harness that even a little bit, we feel like we've added a really good player." Jaime has posted a 5.93 ERA and 19:13 K:BB ratio in 13 2/3 innings with the Braves over two seasons. He has also walked nine batters in 5 1/3 innings in the minors this season after dishing out 36 walks in 41 innings with Triple-A Gwinnett in 2014.

  • Braves P Juan Jaime credited with 1 earned run in loss to Mets

With the game tied in the eighth inning, Braves pitcher Juan Jaime was responsible for the winning run in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Mets. Jaime walked his first two batters, Curtis Granderson and Anthony Recker. He later intentionally walked Ruben Tejada. Facing only four batters, Jaime was relieved by Andrew McKirahan. McKirahan then gave up a hit to Daniel Murphy, which scored Granderson. This gave the the Mets a 4-3 lead and ultimately the win. "It's not like it's the first time with Jaime," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said, via MLB.com. "It's one of those things where he has got a good arm. It's just putting it all together. Today, we were behind the eight ball. That happens when you've won five in a row and you've used [Luis] Avilan and [Jim Johnson] two days in a row and [Brandon] Cunniff. So we went with what we had." Jaime's ERA is now 6.75. He was credited with the loss.

  • Juan Jaime demoted to make room for Christian Bethancourt

A roster spot for promising minor league catcher Christian Bethancourt has been cleared by the Braves by the demotion of right-hander Juan Jaime to Triple-A Gwinnett. Bethancourt was called up to be the 26th man for the Saturday doubleheader, but the opening of the spot will allow him to stay. The upshot could be the moving of Evan Gattis to left field and benching of unproductive B.J. Upton. The 22-year-old Bethancourt owned a decent .273/.304/.372 stat line at the Triple-A level. The clearing of a 25-man spot for Bethancourt indicates that Gattis, who is dealing with a back problem, could be out for a few more days but might not be destined for the disabled list.
