    Nationals release Jeff Kobernus

    The Nationals announced Tuesday that the team has released infielder Jeff Kobernus, the Washington Post reports. Kobernus was sent to minor-league camp last week after going 2 for 13 in eight appearances with the Nationals this spring. He hit .257/.338/.359 with two home runs, 23 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 206 at-bats with Triple-A Syracuse last season.

    The Nationals announced that the team has optioned infielder/outfielder Jeff Kobernus to their Triple-A affiliate, the Syracuse Chiefs. Kobernus was hitting .154 in spring training with six strikeouts in 13 at bats. RHP Erik Davis, still recovering from Tommy John surgery, remains on the Major League roster, but the team will have him continue his rehab in the minor league camp.
