Sgarbossa has one assist in 12 games since being traded from Anaheim. The bottom-six center has played in 12 straight games with the Cats, skating to an average of 13:36 of ice time -- including 1:22 with the man advantage -- during that span, but has managed just a lone goal. That tally was his first as an NHLer, as he's tasted action with Colorado and Anaheim since 2012-13 but never played more than six games in a season. Nonetheless, Sgarbossa isn't exactly breaking out in his increased role in South Florida, so there's not much to see here from a fantasy standpoint.
Sgarbossa was summoned to the Panthers on Thursday. The undersized winger -- Sgarbossa's listed at 5-foot-10 and 171 pounds -- has not made an appearance with the parent club since Florida swung a Nov. 16 trade for him that included Logan Shaw moving to Anaheim. Sgarbossa has shown well with AHL Springfield this season, producing four goals and eight assists in 14 games, but there's not much to get excited about here until he pins down a more substantial role at hockey's highest level.
The Ducks traded Sgarbossa to the Panthers in exchange for Logan Shaw on Wednesday. Sgarbossa has tallied two assists in nine games while averaging just 9:28 of ice time with the Ducks this season, while Shaw has tallied six points (four goals, two assists) in 13 games with Florida's AHL affiliate, so this move was simply a case of two teams hoping two players might perform better in a fresh setting. Sgarbossa will report to AHL Springfield for his first action with his new organization, but could be called up to the big club before long.
Sgarbossa was recalled by the Ducks on Wednesday. Anaheim recalled Sgarbossa to add some depth up front for the team's upcoming three-game road trip, as the Ducks only had 12 healthy forwards on the roster prior to his promotion. The 24-year-old winger has tallied two assists in six games with the Ducks this season, and will likely be returned to the minors once the team's road trip is over.
Sgarbossa was sent down to AHL San Diego on Sunday. Sgarbossa fared well in his most recent stint with the Ducks, logging an assist and five shots on goal over a pair of contests. He was reassigned along with Ondrej Kase to make room for Ryan Getzlaf and Nick Ritchie, who both returned Sunday from lower-body injuries.
