He has appeared in 302 NHL games, including stints with Chicago and Vancouver, with 17 goals, 38 assists and 168 penalty minutes. He spent last season with the Kontinental Hockey League. He has always been more of a defensive presence and never really hit on his offensive skills. McCarthy won't have much Fantasy appeal Draft Day.

    News: Free agent defenseman Steve McCarthy signed a contract with Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League (Russia). McCarthy was an eight-year NHL veteran.
    Analysis: McCarthy appeared in 55 games during an injury-riddled 2007-08 with the Thrashers. He had one goal, six assists and a minus-23 rating -- the worst of his career. He also had 48 penalty minutes. McCarthy was a marginal Fantasy player and can be ignored now that he is overseas.

    News: Steve McCarthy returned after missing 10 games with an oblique injury and earned an assist on Ilya Kovalchuk's first-period goal in Atlanta's 4-1 win over Pittsburgh.
