Panthers' Brent Regner: Recalled by Panthers
Regner was recalled by the Panthers on Friday, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Regner will likely provide insurance along the blue line for the Panthers, with the news that Steve Kampfer had ice on his knee Friday. If Kampfer were unavailable for Saturday's contest against the Penguins, Regner would presumably draw into the lineup in his place. However, it's quite possible the 26-year-old defenseman's stint with the parent club won't last long.
Panthers Bring Regner Aboard On Two-Way DealNews: Brent Regner signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Panthers on Wednesday. Analysis: Brent Regner skated with AHL Chicago in the Blues' organization last season, registered six goals and 23 assists across 71 games. The 26-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut and isn't much of a prospect at this point.
No Qualifying Offer For Regner From JacketsNews: The Blue Jackets have not made a qualifying offer to Brent Regner, the Columbus Dispatch reports. Analysis: The improved depth on the blue line in Columbus left no room on the roster for Brent Regner, even at the AHL level. He'll have to catch on somewhere else.
Regner inks entry-level contractNews: The Blue Jackets signed defenseman Brent Regner to a three-year, entry-level contract Wednesday. The 20-year-old was a fifth-round choice (137th overall) in 2008. Analysis: Regner had 15 goals, 67 points and a plus-65 rating in 70 games for Vancouver of the WHL (juniors) in 2008-09. He is merely organizational depth for Columbus heading into 2009-10 and is best left for the deepest of keeper leagues. He is not considered an elite prospect, but he is among Columbus' top 20 prospects.
