Canadiens' Michael McCarron: Returns to AHL

McCarron was demoted back to AHL St. John's on Tuesday, LNH.com's Arpon Basu reports. McCarron got into two games with the Habs in his first NHL stint, going minus-1 with four shots and four penalty minutes in limited ice time. Montreal's 2013 first-round pick has excelled at the AHL level in his first taste of pro hockey this year, as he's put up 13 goals and 24 points in 28 games with St. John's. He'll keep plying his trade there for now, but the big winger's a good bet to see more time in Montreal later this year.

McCarron will be getting a quick look in Montreal while his AHL team, St. John's, is on a Christmas break. He's a power-forward type, drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft, that will be part of the Canadiens' future.

Canadiens' Michael McCarron: Joins the Canadiens

McCarron was recalled by the Canadiens on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. McCarron accumulated 24 points in 28 points with AHL St. John's, which is an especially impressive total given the forward's size at 6-foot-6, 231 pounds. There's no indication that any of the Candiens' forwards are dealing with an injury, so it's possible the move was made to add depth among the ranks.

  • Habs' McCarron Shifting To Center

News: Michael McCarron, who was drafted as a right-winger, made the shift to center last season in juniors and is expected to play the pivot for AHL St. John's this season, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: It never hurts to add some versatility, but it remains to be seen if Michael McCarron, the Canadiens' first-round draft pick in 2013, will stay at center in the NHL. He's ostensibly competing for a spot on the NHL roster, but is expected to start the season in the AHL, where he can work on his foot speed and improve using his hands in close.
  • Habs' McCarron Traded In Juniors

News: Michael McCarron, who is in the Canadiens' organization and playing at the junior level, was traded by the OHL's London Knights to the Oshawa Generals, the Oshawa Express reports.
Analysis: Michael McCarron, Montreal's first-round pick (25th overall) in the 2013 draft, had an impressive 18 goals and 16 assists in 24 games with the Knights. He made an immediate impact for Oshawa, scoring a goal and assisting on two others in his first game with the Generals.
  • Canadiens' McCarron Gets Team USA Invite

News: Michael McCarron has received an invitation to Team USA's final selection camp for the World Junior Hockey Champsionship, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Michael McCarron's invite is a no-brainer. He's scored 13 goals with 13 assists and is plus-10 in 17 games for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Drafted in 2013 with a eye toward being a power forward, McCarron's slimmed down since draft night and has made the move to center. He's skating better and improved his commitment to the game.
  • Montreal's McCarron Red Hot To Start OHL Season

News: Michael McCarron is off to a terrific start for London (OHL) with 19 points in his first 11 games.
Analysis: Michael McCarron missed London's first seven games due to a shoulder injury that he suffered in the preseason, but he's been on fire since he returned. It's a great sign for a player who struggled to the tune of just 14 goals and 34 points in 66 games in his first OHL season. McCarron was so bad last season that he didn't find himself on the list of our top 100 prospects to begin the year. That seems awful likely to change when the rankings are updated in mid-to-late December.
  • Montreal's McCarron Makes Season Debut

News: Michael McCarron (shoulder) made his season debut for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League on Wednesday, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Michael McCarron, who had been sidelined since injuring the shoulder in a Sept. 23 preseason game against the Bruins, scored a goal in the first period of the Knight's 4-3 shootout win over the Erie Otters.
  • Habs' McCarron Ruled Out Six Weeks

News: Michael McCarron (shoulder) has been ruled out for six weeks, John Lu of TSN Montreal reports.
Analysis: The 2013 first-rounder will have his second season with the OHL's London Knights get off to a delayed start as a result of the injury. While Michael McCarron's development shouldn't be dramatically stalled, it's obviously won't help his chances of reaching Montreal anytime soon. The 19-year-old tallied 14 goals, 20 assists and 120 penalty minutes in 66 games with London in 2013-14.
