With Nate Eovaldi expected start Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks, the Marlins have shifted pitcher Kevin Slowey to the bullpen, manager Mike Redmond told reporters Friday.

Slowey could return to the starting rotation if Tom Koehler struggles during his start Saturday. Slowey could rejoin the rotation as early as June 20 at San Francisco, barring a solid outing from Koehler. Slowey has a 4.10 ERA and a 64-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 79 innings pitched this season.

Slowey has two ugly performances in June wrapped around a seven-inning gem against the Mets. He brings a 4.10 ERA and 64:14 K:BB ratio into a matchup with the Diamondbacks Tuesday.

The Marlins announced Sunday starting pitcher Kevin Slowey will slot back into the rotation Wednesday against the Brewers, according to The Palm Beach Post. Slowey picked up the win Saturday against the Mets, as he tossed seven scoreless innings in relief during a 2-1, 20-inning victory.

Marlins starting pitcher Kevin Slowey was not scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Mets, after a rain delay pushed Miami's rotation back Friday. Slowey, who was originally scheduled to start Saturday's game, did end up pitching a full workload, however, as the Marlins needed him out of the bullpen in a 20-inning marathon.

Slowey ended up tossing 94 pitches and earning the win in the game, as he held the Mets scoreless for seven innings. Slowey entered the game in the bottom of the 13th inning and kept up the Mets' offensive futility. He scattered eight hits in his seven innings of work, but came up with eight timely strikeouts and kept the Mets hitless with runners in scoring position.

Slowey earned his second win of the season for his efforts, as the Marlins pulled ahead in the top of the 20th inning. He is now 2-5 with a 3.77 ERA in 13 appearances. The Marlins will have to adjust their rotation moving forward since they used two starters Saturday, so it is not clear when Slowey is scheduled to make his next start.
