Tim Lincecum follows up no-hitter with eight shutout innings
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum followed up his no-hitter with another gem Tuesday, in a 5-0 win over the Cardinals.

Though the Cardinals ended his consecutive no-hit bid in the second inning, Lincecum still put together what may have been his second-best start of the season. He tossed eight scoreless innings in the outing on just four hits, while walking two batters and striking out six batters on 113 pitches in the win.

Lincecum is now 7-5, and has lowered his ERA to 4.06 on the strength of 17 consecutive scoreless innings over his last two starts. He will try to keep his strong run going when he takes on the Padres Sunday.

Tim Lincecum no-hitter doesn't change much
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Not to pooh-pooh Tim Lincecum's no-hitter against the Padres Wednesday, but ... it came against the Padres.

I'm not normally one to call a bad lineup a "Triple-A lineup," thinking it somehow amusing or original. Even the worst lineups have legitimate major-leaguers who are capable of producing against any given pitcher any given night. That's part of the absurdity of baseball and the necessity for a 162-game season.

But this Padres lineup is historically bad. The Padres as a team entered Wednesday batting .216 with a .616 OPS. Adam Wainwright has done better than that.

Granted, Lincecum's no-hitter isn't as out-of-nowhere as, say, Armando Galarraga's near perfect game -- he did throw one just last year, against these same Padres -- but it's not like he appeared to be on the verge of a breakthrough in his most recent starts. Five of his last eight were actually quality starts, but altogether, he compiled just a 4.40 ERA and 1.30 WHIP during that stretch.

His problems this year are the same as they've been since his big drop in velocity two years ago: too many walks, too many home runs, too many pitches overall ... except against the Padres.

He'll remain on waivers in my leagues.

Tim Lincecum no-hits Padres for second time in a year
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Just over 11 months after he first accomplished the feat, Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum tossed the second no-hitter of his career Wednesday against the Padres.

Lincecum faced just one batter over the minimum over the course of a 4-0 win, as he allowed Chase Headley to reach on a walk. After requiring 148 pitches to finish his previous no-hitter -- also against the Padres -- Lincecum was much more efficient Wednesday. He finished the game with 113 pitches thrown. He closed out the ninth inning with little drama, inducing three easy groundball outs to finish the job.

Lincecum struck out six batters and walked one while completing the feat, the third of the 2014 season. The win pushed Lincecum to 6-5 on the season, while lowering his ERA to 4.42.

Lincecum followed up his no-hitter a year ago with one of his worst starts of the season, as the 148-pitch count took its toll. He will look for better results when he next takes the mound, Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Tim Lincecum strikes out just one, drops to .500
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum fell back to .500 Friday, in a 4-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Lincecum failed to toss a quality start for the first time in three trips to the mound, as he was charged with four runs over six innings of work. He allowed seven hits and a walk, while striking out a season-low one batter on 97 pitches.

Lincecum took the loss to drop his record to 5-5 on the season, while his ERA rose to 4.90 in 82 2/3 innings of work. His next start is set for Wednesday against the Padres.
