Tyler Colvin's strikeout rate still an issue
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Rockies outfielder Tyler Colvin has made the most of his limited opportunity this year, but his strikeout rate could still become a problem for Fantasy owners.

Strikeouts have limited Colvin's average his entire career, leading to a .248/.297/.473 career slash line. While Colvin did hit .290 last season, his numbers were propped up by a .364 BABIP. Colvin's career BABIP is .297, so that's way out of line for him. Colvin struck out 23.5 percent of the time in Triple-A this year, and he doesn't figure to get much better in the majors. As Colvin has shown, he's capable of hitting for solid power. But he's definitely going to struggle to hit much higher than .250 unless he starts striking out less.

Tyler Colvin earning trust early
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Rockies outfielder Tyler Colvin impressed manager Walt Weiss so much in a pair of pinch-hitting appearances in his first two games since being called up that he earned a starting nod Tuesday against the Nationals. And, with the way Colvin took advantage of his opportunity, Weiss will have little reason to take him out of the lineup moving forward.

Colvin homered twice Tuesday, both of which came with one runner on, as he drove in four runs in an 8-3 win. Colvin went 2 for 4 overall in the game, scoring twice and striking out twice as well.

Prior to the game, Weiss praised Colvin's early play.

"Tyler has done great in the short time he's been here," Weiss told MLB.com. "He's squared up some balls that didn't get through and drove in a run with another single. He's taken some very good at-bats."

Tyler Colvin finally joins the Rockies
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

With Michael Cuddyer dealing with an oblique injury, the Rockies called up outfielder Tyler Colvin from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Josh Outman was optioned to make room for Colvin.

Colvin batted .293 with a .914 OPS at Colorado Springs, after failing to make the team out of spring training. Colvin hit .290 with an .857 OPS last season for the Rockies.
