Marlins add J.T. Realmuto, Carter Capps, Reid Brignac
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Marlins have recalled catching prospect J.T. Realmuto and pitcher Carter Capps from Triple-A New Orleans while selecting the contract of infielder Reid Brignac, the team announced Monday.

Realmuto will take over backup-catcher duties from Jeff Mathis, who suffered a fractured finger Sunday. Realmuto got his first taste of major-league action last season, hitting .241/.267/.345 with nine RBI in 29 at-bats. He's 5 for 13 with a stolen base in three games with Triple-A New Orleans.

Capps is set to join the Marlins pitching staff with Henderson Alvarez heading to the disabled list. Capps has made two appearances with New Orleans this season, giving up two earned runs in one inning of work.

Brignac will serve as a utility infielder after Don Kelly suffered a fractured finger Sunday. Brignac hit .222/.300/.346 in 81 at-bats with the Phillies last season.

Reid Brignac willing to play in Triple-A to stick with Marlins
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

When Reid Brignac didn't make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, he had to decide whether to accept an offer to play for the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans.

There were no offers of a Major League slot on any other team's offer, so Brignac decided to report to Triple-A.

Like I said to (Marlins general manager) Dan Jennings, I wasn't going to go and play Triple-A for another organization," Brignac said, per the Times Picayune. "I put in 40 days with the manager and coaches and players during big-league camp and, those relationships I built with those guys, I didn't want to start that over with a new organization."

"I want to continue to grow with them and hopefully stick around, not just one season, and be a part of this organization for more years to come," he added. "I would like to stick around with one team more than one season and then have to do it again the next year
