Jeremy Hellickson roughed up in winning effort
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson endured his worst outing of the season but managed to escape with the win Friday night against the Orioles.

Hellickson (2-2), who made his ninth start of the season, surrendered a home run to J.J. Hardy in the second and surrendered four runs in the eighth. The right-hander was charged with a season-high eight runs and 10 hits in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked one in a 12-10 victory.

Hellickson has allowed at least four runs in four of his last five starts. He has watched his ERA rise from 3.55 to 5.82 over that span. He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at Toronto. He allowed three runs and walked four in five innings of work in his previous meeting against the Blue Jays May 6.

Jeremy Hellickson having trouble holding leads
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson expressed disappointment after Saturday's game against the Padres, which was the third straight start he couldn't hold a sizeable lead.

"I've got to do a better job when they give me a lead like that," Hellickson said after losing a 6-2 lead in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Padres, per the Tampa Bay Times. "I'm very happy we won the game. At the same time, I'm very disappointed with myself. It's been three, four games in a row now I've done the same thing."

Hellickson started the year 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA through four starts. He's 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA and .292 opponents' batting average in his last four starts.

Home runs crush Jeremy Hellickson
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com

Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson (1-2) surrendered a season-high six runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings but escaped with a no-decision during Tampa Bay's 8-7 interleague win over San Diego on Saturday night. Hellickson allowed just two runs through the first six innings -- both on a homer by Chase Headley in the first -- before being tagged for five in the seventh, with the heavy damage coming on a grand slam by pinch-hitter Jesus Guzman.

The poor frame prevented him from completing seven innings for the first time in his past four starts as his ERA swelled to 5.25. The right-hander struck out eight batters and walked only one.

Hellickson draws his fifth start of the season on the road in his next outing Friday at Baltimore. He was roughed up for five runs in 6 1/3 innings during his previous game against the Orioles.

Jeremy Hellickson deserved better Monday
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com

Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson pitched Monday at home against the Blue Jays. After two scoreless innings, he was staked to a 7-0 lead after three.

Hellickson gave up three runs in the fourth on Colby Rasmus' two-run homer and Melky Cabrera's RBI single, but led 7-3 when he left the game. But the bullpen couldn't hold the lead as the Jays rallied for an 8-7 win behind J.P. Arencibia's  two-run homer off Fernando Rodney with two outs in the ninth.

Hellickson (1-2) allowed six hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out three and threw 61 of his 101 pitches for strikes. His ERA is 4.79.

The 26-year-old has failed to go more than six innings in three-straight outings. His next start is Saturday against San Diego.
