Brewers to start Hector Gomez at second base Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

The Brewers will slot infielder Hector Gomez at second base for Monday's game against the Reds with Scooter Gennett battling a hand injury, the team announced.

Gomez has made three starts so far this season and is hitting .273 with two RBI in 11 at-bats. Gomez will likely be in the lineup for the next two days with Gennett waiting for a cut on his hand to heal. The Brewers are currently the favorites (-115) against the Reds.

Brewers' Ryan Braun bats leadoff for first time in career
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Brewers right fielder Ryan Braun was slotted in the leadoff position in the team's starting lineup on Saturday, the first time in his career he's batted leadoff.

The Brewers' lineup had other major changes on Saturday. Martin Maldonado will bat seventh and catch, in just his fourth game of 2015. Regular catcher Jonathan Lucroy replaces Adam Lind at first base.

"Trying to do something different, getting [Braun] sparked," Roenicke said to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He's had better at-bats, but just to get his mind off some things and maybe on something else. Then also, I think he is swinging the bat better. He's just not getting hits. Put him in a little different atmosphere. Hopefully he can get on base for us and have the other guys drive him in."

Hector Gomez gets the start at second base, batting sixth. He replaces Scooter Gennett

Logan Schaefer is in center field, batting eighth. It will be his first start of the season.

Brewers' Lucroy, Gennett not in starting lineup Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy and second baseman Scooter Gennett are not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Lucroy is getting a break from starting Sunday after opening the season just 1 for 20, and Martin Maldonado will take his spot behind the plate. Manager Ron Roenicke said he isn't worried about Lucroy's slow start, the Journal Sentinel reports.

"Luc has had some good at-bats," Roenicke said Sunday. "He stayed on a breaking ball and hit a bullet to second yesterday. The day before he lined out to short. So he’s had some good at-bats. The first couple days he was lost, then he started swinging the bat again. I like what he’s doing."

With Lucroy out of the lineup, Jean Segura will move to the No. 2 slot, and the manager indicated that Segura's early-season performance made his choice for the spot easy.

"The way he’s been swinging it, yeah," Roenicke said. "Other than that, I don’t what I would have done. Sometimes you slip in a Khris Davis or somebody else. But Seggy, the way he’s swinging, he’s perfect."

Gennett is out of the lineup for the second straight game after getting ejected Friday for slamming his bat to the ground on a called strike three when the team had no backup infielders on the bench. Hector Gomez will get a second straight start at second base after going 2 for 3 Saturday.

The Brewers are favorites (-120) against the Pirates Sunday.

Brewers' Hector Gomez rips two doubles in start Saturday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Brewers utility infielder Hector Gomez went 2 for 3 from the plate Saturday with two doubles and two RBI in Milwaukee's 6-0 win over the Pirates.

Gomez, who drew the start for Scooter Gennett, took the second pitch he saw from Vance Worley to left field, driving in both Aramis Ramirez and Jean Segura in the second inning.

He then doubled again in the seventh and was later driven home by Carlos Gomez on his double.

Brewers' Scooter Gennett out due to frustration with ejection
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is not in the starting lineup Saturday due to frustration with his ejection from Friday's game, manager Ron Roenicke said per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Hector Gomez will replace him at second. Gennett was ejected from Friday's game after throwing his bat down in frustration after a called strike on an attempted check swing. He is struggling so far at the plate this season, going just 1 for 13 with six strikeouts.

"I don't need [an explanation], I know why," Gennett said to MLB.com. "I let my frustrations get the best of me last night, and I apologize. I kind of lost track of how many guys we had left on the bench. That's something I don't really focus on; I focus more on hitting the ball. The one thing I felt worse about was doing that to my team."
