| Kawasaki knocks in first run: Mariners infielder Munenori Kawasaki got the start for the injured Brendan Ryan on Saturday night against the A's and made the most of his opportunity. He went 1 for 4 at the plate with his first RBI in the majors. Kawasaki also scored a run, but would strikeout twice. Seattle would hold on for the 8-7 victory. "We want to make sure Ryan's OK, that's first and foremost," manager Eric Wedge said. "But it's a good opportunity for Mune to get in there." (Updated 04/08/2012) |

| Kawasaki, 30, .455 (20-for-44) with 13 RBI in the spring, so he showed the Mariners he can hit. It seems like Ryan missing time was more of a precaution, so Kawasaki probably won't be getting a ton of starts anytime soon. "We'll play it by ear right now," Wedge said. "Brendan Ryan is our starting shortstop, but Mune can play other positions as well. We'll just see how it plays out here the next couple days." Fantasy owners should view Kawasaki as an AL-only reserve option at best right now. (Updated 04/08/2012). |
