Betancourt has struck out two or more in four of his last five appearances. His ERA dropped to 1.56 after Sunday's 5-0 victory.

Betancourt needed just 14 pitches as he struck out the side in order to secure a 10-9 win and his 10th save of the season. He has allowed two runs -- one earned -- over his last seven innings of work.

Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt took his first loss Wednesday night against the Yankees. He entered in the ninth inning with the game tied and allowed the first two hitters to reach base.

The right-hander would record an out before intentionally walking Jayson Nix to load the bases.

After striking out Travis Hafner, Brennan Boesch reached on an infield single to force home the winning run.

Betancourt saw his ERA rise to 1.88 in the 3-2 loss.

Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt notched his ninth save Tuesday night against the Yankees. Betancourt came on in the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead and surrendered a leadoff single to Jayson Nix.

However, he was able to retire the next three batters he faced -- two by strikeout -- to secure the win and collect the save.

Betancourt has only allowed two earned runs over his 14 appearances (1.35 ERA) and is 9 for 9 in save chances.
