The Rangers have placed infielder Jeff Baker on the disabled list with a sprained right thumb.

Baker has not played since June 12, and was hoping to return Wednesday. His thumb did not respond to a cortisone shot, prompting the move. He's eligible to return June 28. Baker is hitting .317/.391/.695 in 82 at-bats. 

The Rangers kept Jeff Baker out of the lineup for Monday's game against Oakland. Baker, who has an injured thumb, received a cortisone shot Saturday. He is day to day and unavailable to hit against the A's Monday, FOX Sports reports. 

Texas manager Ron Washington does not expect Baker to need to go on the disabled list and hopes he can return to action Wednesday. He's batting .317 on the season with nine homers and 16 RBI over 82 at-bats. 

Rangers infielder Jeff Baker received a cortisone injection in his injured thumb Saturday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Rangers manager Ron Washington contends the team doesn't plan to put Baker on the disabled list.

Baker is batting .280 (7 for 25) with one double, four home runs and seven RBI in his last seven games (six starts).

Baker missed his last two games with a thumb injury suffered during a celebratory high-five Thursday. He is mostly used off the bench against left-handers. The Rangers won't face a lefty until Wednesday against Tommy Milone and the A's. Baker is hitting .317 with nine home runs and 16 RBI.
