Luke Scott's hard work paying off
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com

Rays outfielder Luke Scott had a nice game Saturday against the Royals. Scott homered for the fourth time this season as he went 2 for 3.

Scott's two-run homer in the third inning came off former teammate Jeremy Guthrie. He added a walk in the game and is batting .239.

Manager Joe Maddon moved Scott up in the order for the game, despite Scott going just 4 for 37 (.108) over the first 10 games of June. He worked with hitting coach Derek Shelton, however, prior to Wednesday's game, The Tampa Tribune reports.

The following game, Scott entered as a pinch-hitter and recorded two hits. That began a run in which Scott went 5 for 6.

"Just made a few adjustments, just kind of brought my setup to the same setup in that year," Scott said. "Shelty, he grabbed me and had a couple ideas on some drills that we could do. Just every day, we've been doing them, trying to stay on top of the ball and hit the ball up front."

Luke Scott taking extra BP
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Rays designated hitter Luke Scott arrived to the ballpark early Thursday and took batting practice with hitting coach Derek Shelton in attendance.

Scott told The Tampa Tribune that he's had a hard time finding his swing since returning from the disabled list. Manager Joe Maddon, along with Scott, both feel that he has been thinking too much in the batter’s box.

Scott has just seven hits in his last 55 at-bats and has seen his batting average drop to a season-low .215.

"He's a little bit of a Mr. Goodwrench. He'll overanalyze sometimes, and that can get in the way at some point," Maddon said. "I would just prefer that he goes out there and throws caution to the wind as opposed to his normal personality. Something like that, I think, might help. Just let it go a little bit. Let it rip."

Slumping Luke Scott takes a seat
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com

The Rays starting lineup did not feature designated hitter Luke Scott Sunday against Baltimore. Scott was given a rest by manager Joe Maddon.

The 34-year-old has just three hits since June began and is batting .224 on the year overall with just three homers and 18 RBI over 98 at-bats. Scott has gone just 6 for 44 (.136) over his last 14 games with 13 strikeouts.
