Reds' Amir Garrett: First spring training start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garrett allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks, striking out over 1.2 innings in his spring training debut.

Garrett had a case of nerves early on, when the Indians did their damage against him. "I didn't know what my nerves would be like today. Going into the game, I was pretty nervous, I'm not going to lie," Garrett said. "I'm all calm now. I got the first one out of the way, and I'm ready to roll." Both of his strikeouts came on sliders, a pitch he's working on this spring.

Reds' Jumbo Diaz: Tough spring debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Diaz struggled in his Cactus League debut Saturday, giving up two runs on two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch in his inning of work.

Control has always been Diaz's biggest hindrance to carving out a big role in the majors. While we hesitate to extrapolate more out of a spring training debut than is appropriate, this outing is illustrative of his struggles in the past.

Reds' Louis Coleman: Deals with biceps tendinitis
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Coleman is dealing with right biceps tendinitis and will take a few days off from throwing, Mark Sheldon of reports.

The ailment isn't considered to be serious at this point. Coleman signed a minor league contract with the Reds this offseason after amassing a 4.69 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 48 innings with the Dodgers last year. Consider him day-to-day unless anything changes.

Reds' Arismendy Alcantara: Makes spring debut following thumb injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Alcantara started in center field and batted second in the Reds' Cactus League opener on Friday.

The fact that Alcantara was able to make the start for Cincinnati would seem to indicate his thumb is feeling much better after spraining it back in December. The former Cub and Athletic is most likely a long shot at this point to make the Reds' opening day roster, but that could change with a very impressive spring training performance.

Reds' Bronson Arroyo: Misses workout with flu
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Arroyo missed Friday's workout due to flu-like symptoms, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Arroyo, who also turned 40 on Friday, is competing for a spot in the Cincinnati rotation after signing a minor league contract this offseason. The veteran right-hander played eight seasons with the Reds from 2006 to 2013, but missed the entirety of last season with a shoulder injury. Expect him back on the mound soon.
