Video: L.A. news anchor lauds Kings goalie Jonathan Swift
The L.A. Kings are one win away from sweeping the New Jersey Devils and taking the Stanley Cup. The city of Los Angeles has had more than a month to get on this big bandwagon.
And if you were to hop on that bandwagon, the first player you are likely to learn about is Jonathan Quick, the goalie who seems to defy superlatives.
But oh, that L.A. media did it again. Even with a setup that the anchor recognizes, she still manages to call the Kings netminder Jonathan Swift. Hey, swift at least means close to the same thing as quick as a verb, so she wasn't that far off.
It's easy to laugh at this, especially since it keeps on happening in L.A., but I'm pretty sure it's just a slip of the tongue. I really wouldn't expect the lead news anchor to be deep in the knowledge of all the local sports teams, it's not their typical responsibility. If it were the sportscaster making the error it would be a little more egregious.
Regardless, it's still bad and rather funny to confuse the best goalie in the NHL today with an old Anglo-Irish poet.
Oh, and the pronunciation of Martin Brodeur deserves dishonorable mention.
For those keeping score at home, the ABC affiliate in L.A. is still perfect, so if you're a hockey fan in SoCal, you're probably obligated to turn to them for your news coverage.
