Thursday night could be bit awkward for ex-Sabres goalie Ryan Miller as his current team, St. Louis, hosts his former squad.
Miller was traded in late February to St. Louis, whose 51-17-7 record is tops in the Western Conference. In 14 games (10-3-1) thus far, Miller has been a stud acquisition, saving 92 percent of his opponent’s shots.
Unfortunately, he won’t be between the pipes as Brian Elliott has earned the nod, according to NHL.com.
"It's fine," Miller said of the decision. "There will be a lot of time to worry about that later. This year it's pretty fresh leaving that situation, so maybe it's just a full break, get [Elliott] in there."
Thursday’s matchup is the first meeting since the blockbuster deadline deal.
“It’s going to be a little strange,” Miller told NHL.com. “There were a group of guys I played with for a number of years. It’s going to be a little bit different but all great guys, all guys I count as friends. I’m looking forward to seeing them.”
“On the human side of it, I’m glad the guys are going to be in town. A chance to see some friends,” he added.
Miller, now 33, had spent his entire career with Buffalo beginning in 2002-2003.
He won 284 games with the Sabres.
