The NHL season is only two days old, but we already have what will probably stand up as one of the most bizarre goals of the year.
In a rather thrilling matchup between Atlantic Division rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings, the third period was filled with goals. Most of them were scored by the home Lightning, but as the Red Wings attempted to mount a comeback after blowing their lead heading into the final frame, they got a little bit of luck.
Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser was just trying to get the puck into the Lightning zone with a routine, hard dump in. The blueliner wound up and sent the puck into the corner of the Tampa zone. On the way in, DeKeyser's high shot hit the patrician on the glass. Lightning goalie Ben Bishop was anticipating that the puck would merely ring around the net, so he stayed in his crease, but the deflection caused a bit of a disaster for the goalie.

Bishop didn't realize before it was too late that the puck had caromed right at him. He wasn't tight to the post and before he could seal it off, the puck slipped through him. He was so caught off guard that he actually stumbled into the net and knocked it off.
That cut the Lightning's lead to 5-4. Tampa's Valtteri Filppula would add another goal, however, to ensure that the unfortunate bounce wasn't a factor in the result as the Lightning earned a 6-4 win with four third-period goals.
