There's always a Winner and a Loser in the NHL, and this is a new nightly look at some of the winners and losers in the biggest games and biggest situations across the league. Winners

Ilya Bryzgalov's shutout streak: Ilya Bryzgalov continues to play his best hockey of the season for the Philadelphia Flyers, and during their 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night he extended his shutout streak to three consecutive games, stopping all 17 shots he faced.

Over his past three starts he's stopped all 74 shots that have reached him, and now has four shutouts in his past five appearances, a stretch that's seen him stop 143 of a possible 145 shots … or, in other words, a .986 save percentage.

This is the goalie the Flyers thought they were getting this summer.

Kari Lehtonen and the first place Stars: Speaking of shutout streaks and hot goaltenders, Dallas Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen recorded his second straight shutout in a 1-0 win over the offensively inept Minnesota Wild.

Jamie Benn scored the only goal of the night, his 21st of the season, for the Pacific Division leading Stars, giving them their sixth straight win and pushing them to 11-1-2 in their past 14 games.

Washington Capitals: The Capitals needed a win to keep pace with the Florida Panthers in the Southeast Division race, and after falling into a 4-1 hole, thanks in large part to a couple of unlucky bounces, things were not looking good for the Capitals. But because the Islanders have a brutal time trying to hold onto leads lately, Washington was able to come all the way back and earn a 5-4 shootout win.

Alex Ovechkin scored a pair of goals in the comeback, while Matt Hendricks , of all people, scored the winner in the shootout with an impressive move to beat Evgeni Nabokov .

Losers

Boston Bruins: Is it time to hit the panic button in Boston? We have to be getting close to that point, right?

Marty Turco made his first start for the Bruins on Tuesday night and allowed four goals on 12 shots (he was even pulled for a brief period early in the game before eventually returning) as the team was destroyed by the Lightning, 6-1.

The Bruins have now lost three in a row while being outscored 15-6.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Not that there was any doubt about it heading into Tuesday's game at Florida, but after losing yet again, this time by a 5-2 margin to the Panthers, the Maple Leafs playoff chances are just about finished. Done.
