  • Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Participates in full practice Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/27/17) Niskanen (lower body) was a full participant at Monday's practice and could return to action Tuesday against the Rangers, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports

The news is encouraging for fantasy owners as it looks like the 30-year-old defenseman won't be out of the lineup much longer. Check back after Tuesday's morning skate, but it looks like his return could be imminent.

Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Will not play Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/25/17) Niskanen (lower body) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Predators, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

The Minnesotan will miss his second straight game with the ailment as Washington has decided to be cautious with his recovery and give him plenty of time to heal. He has already equaled last season's total of 32 points, but has accomplished it in only 58 games, so fantasy owners should be ready to activate him as soon as he is able to return.

Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Ruled out Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/24/17) Niskanen (lower body) will miss Friday's home game against the Oilers, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

Niskanen's injury stems from a knee-on-knee collision with Radko Gudas in Wednesday's game against the Flyers. This ailment really must be bothering the mobile rearguard since he's generally regarded as an Iron Man with only two missed games since the start of the 2013-14 campaign. Look for Nate Schmidt to tag into the lineup with Niskanen unavailable.

Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Questionable for Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/23/17) Niskanen (lower body) is uncertain to play Friday against the Oilers, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

Niskanen exited in the second period of Wednesday's contest against the Flyers after knee-on-knee contact with Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas and is considered day-to-day. With the Capitals comfortably in a playoff position and Friday's game being against a Western Conference opponent, it's likely they will be cautious and hold the 30-year-old defenseman out of the lineup for at least one game, but look for updates after the morning skate.

Capitals' Matt Niskanen: Leaves Wednesday's game due to injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/22/17) Niskanen (lower body) won't return to Wednesday's matchup with the Flyers.

Niskanen appeared to sustain the injury when he reportedly "banged knees" with Philadelphia's Radko Gudas in the second period of Wednesday's tilt. The American blueliner briefly returned to the game for a single shift after being examined by the Capitals' training staff, but was ruled out of the rest of the contest shortly after the third period got underway. Nate Schmidt will likely slide into the lineup if Niskanen is forced to miss any time with his lower-body ailment.
