  • Lightning's Ben Bishop: Should be ready for World Cup

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/28/16) Bishop (ankle) is expected to be cleared in time for the World Cup on Hockey, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday.

Bishop, who was injured during the Eastern Conference Finals, appears to be on track to participate in the World Cup of Hockey, although it remains unclear who will start for Team USA; Bishop or fellow netminders Jonathan Quick or Cory Schneider. Regardless, fantasy owners and fans alike will be thrilled that the 29-year-old can shake off any post-injury rust prior to the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

Lightning's Ben Bishop: Will likely be in Tampa when camp opens

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/25/16) Bishop's (ankle) chances of starting the season in Tampa Bay grew Friday night when he wasn't traded during the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

A few teams needed goaltending this offseason, but the Leafs solved their issue pre-draft and the Flames picked up Brian Elliott from the Blues on the draft floor. TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on-air during Round One that the Flames had been given permission to discuss a potential contract with Bishop's camp, but those talks were never initiated. The goalie market has softened now, so Big Ben will likely be in a Bolts uni come training camp.

Lightning's Ben Bishop: Ankle injury not affecting offseason workouts

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/7/16) Bishop has reported no issues with his ankle as it pertains to his offseason workout regimen, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Fantasy owners holding Bishop in keeper leagues can breathe a collective sigh of relief as the ankle injury that Bishop sustained in Game 1 of the conference finals versus the Penguins appears to be a non-issue with the Bolts' offseason underway. It will be interesting to see if he remains in Tampa at a cost of $5.95 million given that fellow goalie Andrei Vasilveskiy made a strong case for more playing time in 2016-17.

Lightning's Ben Bishop: Cap issues could put goalie on trade market

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/28/16) The Lightning are at the salary cap ceiling and has cap issues going forward, and that could mean Bishop (ankle) and his $5.9 million contract are traded this offseason.

Bishop's value has never been higher coming off a season in which he led the NHL in goals against average and was the only goalie to finish in the top five in wins, save percentage and shutouts. But he has full no-move clause in his contract. Still, Andrei Vasilevskiy's strong performance during the Eastern Conference finals shows he's ready for more playing time. The Bolts may still go with its current tandem, but moving Big Ben and rolling with the lower-cost Vasilevskiy could make real cap sense.

Lightning's Ben Bishop: Sheds light on playoff injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/27/16) Bishop clarified that he had strained ligaments around his ankle as the result of his injury sustained in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.

Bishop told reports that he had trouble dropping into the butterfly position, but might have been ready by Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals had the Lightning defeated the Penguins in Game 7 of the conference finals. The big goalie was spectacular before suffering the ailment, finishing his second straight postseason with a 1.85 GAA through 11 starts. With that playoff injury evidently not too serious, there's no need to bump him down your fantasy rankings ahead of the 205-16 season; in fact, he should be one of the first tenders off the board.
