  • Capitals' John Carlson: Battled broken foot/ankle this season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/12/16) Carlson dealt with a broken foot/ankle in the regular season, Katie Brown of NHL.com reports.

During the regular season, the Caps used "lower body" to describe Carlson's injury, but with their 2015-16 campaign now in the books, the media is privy to full disclosure. A savvy playmaker from the blue line, Carlson was limited to 56 games, though he didn't look any worse for the wear when it mattered most. Carlson tied Alex Ovechkin for a team-best 12 points through the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Capitals' John Carlson: Registers Game 6 power-play goal

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/11/16) Carlson sent Game 6 into overtime with a 5-on-3 goal Tuesday before conceding the series to the Penguins in overtime.

Carlson had a fantastic series against Pittsburgh as he logged a point in each of the six outings, but will certainly be disappointed to see yet another Washington season end in defeat. While the defenseman did have an injury shortened regular season, he appeared in just 56 contests, his eight goals and 31 assists were vital to securing the Presidents' Trophy. Unless there is a significant shakeup within the organization, the 26-year-old will continue anchoring the Caps blue line well into the future.

Capitals' John Carlson: Extends point streak to four with goal

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/5/16) Carlson scored a goal while taking two shots in 30:15 of ice time in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Penguins.

Carlson's ice time has risen in each of the last three games, as the Capitals have begun to lean on their top blueliner more as times get desperate. The Penguins now hold a commanding 3-1 series lead despite conceding a point to Carlson in every game, meaning the American defenseman will likely have to add even more offense to his game for the Capitals to stage a comeback. His two shots on goal marked a personal series low, but Carlson should be able to bounce back nicely with the series shifting back to Washington for Game 5.

Capitals' John Carlson: Collects assist in third straight game Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/2/16) Carlson garnered an assist and fired a game-high eight shots on goal in Monday's Game 3 loss to Pittsburgh.

Carlson was one of four Caps to throw six shots or more on rookie netminder Matt Murray, who went off for 47 saves and completely stole the show at the Consol Energy Center. Despite the loss, the American rearguard is producing at an elite level this postseason, having recorded points in three straight and nine in nine games to date.

Capitals' John Carlson: Three-point outing in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/18/16) Carlson collected three points Monday, scoring a goal and assisting on two in the Game 3 win over the Flyers.

All three points came on the power play, as the Caps connected a whopping five times with the man advantage. Carlson now has a six-game point streak -- notching 11 points (four goals, seven assists) over that span -- and figures to continue being a key factor in Washington's playoff run.
