  • Capitals' John Carlson: Out again Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/21/17) Carlson (lower body) will not play Saturday against the Stars, though he did do some light skating at morning skate, The Washington Post reports.

Capitals coach Barry Trotz indicated that Carlson will skate again Monday and Tuesday, at which point he'll be set up for further evaluation. While he hasn't been lighting lamps with as much accuracy as last season, Carlson is already up to 106 shots in 43 games while averaging 0.58 points per contest. He's also a tough one to replace on the man advantage, having registered 10 points in that special teams situations. Set to miss his third consecutive game, keep him reserved for now.

Capitals' John Carlson: Ruled out Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/19/17) Head coach Barry Trotz confirmed that Carlson (lower body) will not play Thursday against the Blue, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

Carlson has not played since sustaining the injury during Sunday's contest against the Flyers. It is unclear whether the U.S. Olympian will be able to return Saturday against the Stars, so fantasy owners should continue to monitor his progress. In any case, the Capitals have not recalled any defensemen from the minors so it doesn't look like Carlson will be out for much longer.

Capitals' John Carlson: "Doubtful" for Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/18/17) Head coach Barry Trotz says Carlson (lower body) is "doubtful" to play Thursday against the Blue, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington reports.

Carlson was decidedly missed during Monday's 8-7 OT lost to the Penguins and it looks likely that he will miss another game with the ailment. However, Washington has yet to recall a defenseman from AHL Hershey as of yet, so there is still a chance he will be able to play. Keep an eye on his status closer to game time for new information, but fantasy owners would be wise to consider other options for Thursday.

Capitals' John Carlson: Will not play Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/16/17) Carlson (lower body) has been ruled out against the Penguins on Monday, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports.

Coach Barry Trotz told reporters he expects to have Carlson back for Thursday's matchup with St. Louis. Although the defenseman's goal scoring has been limited, he has managed to register 20 helpers on the year, including five in his last seven games. Once back in the lineup, the 27-year-old figures to continue seeing plenty of opportunities as he is averaging 22:54 of ice time per night, including 3:07 with the man advantage.

Capitals' John Carlson: Exits Sunday's game with nagging lower-body injury

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/15/17) Carlson left Sunday afternoon's game against the Flyers with a lower-body injury, and his return his questionable.

Carlson only skated for 6:38 and hasn't come out for the second period. Various reports have indicated that this may be related to the lower-body issue that forced him to leave Thursday's practice prematurely. The Capitals go right back to work Monday against the Penguins, but that's a road game, so expect a quick turnaround in terms of the team reevaluating Carlson.
