  • Panthers' Reilly Smith: Signs five-year extension with Panthers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/3/16) Smith signed a five-year contract extension with the Panthers on Sunday.

The deal is expected to average $5 million per season. In his first year with the Panthers, Smith played in all 82 games, finishing with a career-high of 25 goals, while also adding 25 assists as well. The 25-year-old also had a very strong showing in the 2015-16 playoffs, notching four goals and four assists over six games, leading the team in total points. Smith has obviously gained the trust of coach Gerard Gallant by the looks of this deal, so he should return to the Panthers as a significant contributor and may even see his role increase in his sixth NHL season.

Panthers' Reilly Smith: Continues postseason tear with three-point effort

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/18/16) Smith scored his fourth goal of the playoffs and had two assists in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Islanders.

That's three straight multi-point games to open the playoffs for Smith, who has been dominant. The 25-year-old has fired 15 shots on goal and is sporting a plus-7 rating for a Panthers team currently trailing the Islanders 2-1 in their first-sound series. The former Bruin has built off his career-high 25-goal, 50-point regular season and is currently leading all players in postseason scoring.

Panthers' Reilly Smith: Opens Round 1 with five points in two games

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/15/16) Smith scored a goal and added a helper in Friday's 3-1 win over the Islanders in Game 2.

Smith has now produced five points in the first two games of the playoffs while receiving a hefty amount of ice time against the Isles (19:50 and 20:17). That's an increase from his average of 18:37 in the regular season, so clearly head coach Gerard Gallant likes what he sees from the 25-year-old.

Panthers' Reilly Smith: Two goals not enough in Game 1

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/14/16) Smith lit the lamp twice on eight shots, adding an assist and two hits in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Islanders in Game 1.

Smith wanted this win badly, as the winger had not reached eight shots in a single game this season. The 25-year-old has only made one playoff appearance in his career (with Boston), notching four goals and a helper in 12 outings. The postseason seems light a fire under Smith and we suggest taking advantage of it, especially with the solid play of the second line all year.

Panthers' Reilly Smith: Scores 25th the easy way

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/9/16) Smith scored an empty-net goal in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Hurricanes.

Smith's 25th goal marks the first time in Panthers history that the team has four 25-goal scorers (Jaromir Jagr, Aleksander Barkov, Vincent Trocheck). Smith is a huge part of the Panthers success in hopes of a deep playoff run. Smith finishes the season with an even 50 points for the first time in his career.

April 3, 2015: Smith Helps Out In Bruins' Win
Smith dished out two assists Thursday in a 3-2 comeback win over Detroit. With the Bruins down 2-0, Smith went to work, picking up the primary assists on Carl Soderberg's goal to make it 2-1 and Loui Eriksson's game-tying tally. While this year has represented a step back for Smith, he's still been a solid presence and a reliable source of secondary scoring for Boston.
