  • Kings' Dustin Brown: GM not thinking buyout

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/17/16) Kings general manager Dean Lombardi has no immediate plans to buy out Brown, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Numerous reports suggest that Brown, who was stripped of his captaincy in late May, has an untradeable contract. Specifically, he signed an eight-year contract extension in July of 2013, a deal with an average annual value (AAV) of $5.875 million. Nonetheless, Lombardi opines that Brown is still in the prime of his career, telling reporters, "I really believe he's going to get his game back." The 31-year-old has registered only 82 points (37 goals, 45 assists) in three seasons since renewing his contract with the Silver and Black. His power-play ice time keeps sinking as well, falling to 1:01 in 2015-16. Perhaps losing the captaincy, yet somehow getting a vote of confidence from team brass, will be enough for Brown to turn his career around -- we're not very optimistic that will happen, though.

    Kings' Dustin Brown: Loses captaincy

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/27/16) Brown (wrist) has been stripped of his captaincy with the Kings, TSN's Frank Seravalli reports.

Brown had served in that highly-respected role for eight seasons -- the longest in franchise history -- and he took the role in stride by leading the club to Stanley Cup wins in 2012 and 2014. The NHL is consistent with the rest of the sports world in that the league is very much a "what have you done for me lately?" setting. Brown battled a minor wrist injury and went minus-2 with just one point in five games against the Sharks, losing in the quarterfinal round of the current playoffs. That may have been a factor in the team's decision to ditch the stitch on Brown's sweater. The team has yet to name a successor for the captaincy.

Kings' Dustin Brown: Minor procedure on wrist won't impact offseason

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/13/16) Brown has a "minor procedure" on his wrist after the season concluded that will not impact his off-season training program or readiness for training camp, LA Kings Insider reports.

Brown netted just 11 goals and 28 points in 82 games in the second year of an eight-year deal that carries a $5.875 million cap hit.

Kings' Dustin Brown: Goals in three straight

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/18/16) Brown scored a goal for the third consecutive game and added an assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win against the Rangers.

The goal was particularly crucial, as it came only 19 seconds after New York's J.T. Miller opened the scoring around the middle of the first period. The Rangers ended up building a 3-1 lead thereafter, but Brown was involved in erasing that as well, assisting on Kyle Clifford's goal that drew the score within one. Prior to this three-game stretch, however, Brown had gone 11 consecutive games without a point. That's been pretty typical for him this season -- short streaks of productivity punctuating extended stretches of futility.

Kings' Dustin Brown: Continues goal-scoring renaissance in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/15/16) Brown tallied a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Stars.

Brown has now recorded goals in back-to-back games, which is a welcome sight after going an extended period between goals prior to Monday's game. Before Monday, Brown had gone 15 games without lighting the lamp, and only managed two points total in that span. He still made his presence known during the drought, though, since he racked up a whopping 68 hits in those 15 games.
