Barcelona moved into first place in La Liga table thanks to Lionel Messi’s late goal which carried the Catalan club past Atletico Madrid, 2-1, on Sunday.

In a match in which they probably didn’t deserve to win and even struggled early on, Messi and his Blaugrana teammates were able to get three massive points on the road with two fortunate strikes.

Rafinha scored the opener for Barca early in the second half but his effort was canceled out later by a Diego Godin’s header, only to then see Messi poke home the winner four minutes from the final whistle.

With the club under pressure over recent performances, especially the shocking 4-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League, the club secured this massive win to propel its title hopes and put pressure on Real Madrid, who play later on Sunday.
