Barcelona made sure not to slip up in the race for La Liga on Sunday, beating Real Sociedad 3-2 behind two goals and an assist from Lionel Messi. With Real Madrid earning a dramatic win at Sporting Gijon earlier in the day by the same scoreline, Barca made sure it finished the weekend just three points behind the league leaders ahead of El Clasico next weekend.
It was Messi who opened the scoring in this one just 17 minutes in with this rocket of an effort:
¡GOLAZO! En @TeamMessi el @FCBarcelona_es puede confiar, cae el primero en Camp Nou #FCBReal 1-0 https://t.co/Rj3vq2L26h

Messi then made it 2-0 with an easy tap in off a shot from Luis Suarez 37 minutes in:
¡GOL! @paco93alcacer y @LuisSuarez9 hacen el esfuerzo pero el rebote le cae a @TeamMessi que obtiene su 2-0 #FCBReal https://t.co/VF6fXwpnes

Real Sociedad got one back from an own goal from Samuel Umtiti just before the break, but Paco Alcacer sealed it just two minutes later with this strike:
¡GOOOL! @TeamMessi le filtra el balón a @paco93alcacer, quien se redime de aquel error y poner el 3-1 #FCBReal https://t.co/PPPg4EENXU

The win means Barca moves to 72 points, three less than Real with one more match played.
Barca can level things or Real can maybe put an end to the title race when the two face next Sunday at 2:45 p.m. ET.
