Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey will miss the remainder of the season, the club announced on Tuesday. Dempsey had been dealing with an irregular heartbeat since September. The 33-year-old returned to practice on Sept. 14 but won't make it back this campaign as he continues his recovery.

The Sounders said this news will potentially impact his availability for the World Cup qualifying matches in November.

It's a big blow for both teams as Dempsey has long been one of the top attackers for both club and country. The Sounders currently sit in seventh place in the Western Conference, one spot below a playoff spot.
