New York City Football Club striker David Villa has signed a one-year contract extension with the MLS club, the player announced on Twitter on Wednesday. The 35-year-old World Cup winner joined NYCFC in 2014 and has since scored 44 goals in 68 matches for the club and has arguably been the best player in MLS since his arrival.

Villa, who became a world star at Valencia before joining Barcelona in 2010, has over 332 goals in his career and numerous titles. He was the first signing for NYCFC before its inaugural season.

There never seemed to be much buzz about him leaving NYCFC, but considering he turns 36 this November, retirement seemed like a logical option. This contract extension keeps him in the Big Apple until December of 2018, meaning he will play the rest of this season and the 2018 MLS season with NYCFC.

Villa hasn't slowed down a bit since his days of tearing it up in Europe. He has five goals in seven matches so far this season for NYCFC, and he keeps amazing everybody
