Real Madrid beat Deportivo Alaves 3-0 on Sunday in La Liga to remain in first place, as Karim Benzema’s first-half goal was enough to keep Los Blancos ahead of rival Barcelona.

Entering with a two-point cushion over Barca in the standings, Real extended its lead to five points temporarily with Barca playing later on Sunday.

This Benzema goal, which was a fine, attentive strike, came in the 31st minute and proved to be the winning goal.

Isco then doubled Real’s lead just five minutes from time to kill off the match before Nacho added Real’s third in the 88th minute.

Real had more than 60 percent of the possession and was able to frustrate Alaves in the midfield to control the match and ensure the team finishes the weekend at the summit of La Liga.
