Shocking transfer news out of Portugal on Friday morning, when publication A Bola touched on the future of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently at the Confederations Cup with his national team. Here's what to know:

Rumor: A Bola reports that Ronaldo has told Real Madrid that he wants to leave the club this summer and that his decision is irreversible. ESPNFC reported later on Friday, citing a source, that Ronaldo wants out because of the tax accusations, adding that he wants to play in another country and not deal with what he sees as "persecution."

Why it could be true: Ronaldo is currently facing pressure of alleged tax evasion. And Real Madrid has announced their support of the player. Earlier this week, a Spanish prosecutor filed a lawsuit claiming $16.4 million in tax fraud. So perhaps his comfort level has reached a point where he wants to leave for another club.

Why it could be false: He just won two Champions League titles, is at the most successful European club and has the chance to win another one or two UCL crowns before his career is up. We've seen Lionel Messi deal with tax issues and not want to bolt, so why not just pay back the money if it is indeed owed and move on? At this point in his career, where he is still a physical beast and one of the best in the world, this makes zero sense.

For fun, where could he go? If there is an ounce of truth to this report, the most likely destinations would seemingly be Manchester United and maybe, just maybe, PSG. A loyal player who truly respects his former clubs, it would be near impossible for him to join another Premier League club that isn't United. And for PSG, it's a possibility in this scenario because of the money.

Our verdict: Can't see this being true, but it is picking up steam. This moves it from very unlikely to still unlikely, but you can't mess with a player's comfort. If he no longer feels like Spain is home, he may soon find a new home elsewhere.
