Real Madrid downed Eibar 4-1 on Saturday in La Liga without injured star Cristiano Ronaldo and the suspended Gareth Bale to put the pressure back on Barcelona atop the standings.

Real entered the weekend in second place but jumped back into first with the win, with Barcelona playing later on Saturday.

Karim Benzema, James Rodriguez and Marco Asensio got the goals for Los Blancos, with the French forward scoring twice in the opening 25 minutes.

Here’s what to know.

Player of the match

Benzema. He was lively in attack and grabbed two goals and an assist. Efficient as can be for a forward. Without Ronaldo and Bale, he had to have a big game against a tricky Eibar club, and he did just that.

Goal of the match

James got Real’s third, and it was a lovely flick off a cross from Bezema. Take a look:

Status of Ronaldo and Bale

Ronaldo wasn’t fit for the match but should be back this week, while Bale was serving the first match of his two-match suspension for his red card against Las Palmas midweek.

What result means

Real moves back into first place with a game in hand. With 59 points, Real could be jumped by Barcelona, who plays Celta on Saturday and has 57 points. Eibar sits in a very respectable seventh.
