Ghana needs to beat Portugal Thursday in order to have a chance to move into the knockout stage. The events of this week have not been promising, now culminating with the indefinite suspension of both Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari.
Muntari, who was already ineligible for Thursday's match due to an accumulation of yellow cards, had started Ghana's first two matches. Boateng didn't start against the United States and played just over a half against Germany.
According to the team's official site, Boateng unleashed "vulgar verbal insults" at coach Kwesi Appiah during training and later showed no remorse for his actions.
Muntari engaged in an "unprovoked physical attack on an Executive Committee member of the GFA and a management member of the Black Stars, Mr. Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting." Reports indicate that Muntari and other members of the national team were upset over appearance fees and money they believed to be owed to them.
Earlier this week Ghana's president reportedly sent a plane to Brazil with $3 million aboard to pay the players.
Ghana, again, is in a must-win situation. This cannot help.
