In a bizarre match Thursday, Johanna Konta defeated world No. 1 Angelique Kerber to advance to the semifinals in Eastbourne. Konta's fourth match point came after a 10-minute stoppage during which she recovered from a nasty spill for which she had to get treatment. She took the next two points to topple Kerber, and punch her ticket to the semis.

The 26-year-old British player's win was her first victory over a world No. 1, and it pads her Wimbledon résumé. Her road has certainly been far from easy. In just the previous round, she defeated French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko. Konta will be a player to watch throughout Wimbledon, as she's expected to enter as a top-10 player. Konta's matches have been incredibly hotly contested, as one would expect victories against top players to be. They've also included more than their fair share of falls.

Konta has shown the fortitude early on to emerge as a star throughout Wimbledon, but her road is a difficult one. To take home the Cup, she'll have to beat these players again. After playing through injury and showing the determination that she's shown, however, it feels unwise to bet against her as Wimbledon rolls on.
