Rays' Josh Lowe: Key knock as pinch hitter
Lowe went 1-for-1 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored Thursday against the Cubs. Lowe began the game on the bench with lefty Justin Steele on the mound but entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning. He made an immediate impact with an RBI single and also tallied his first stolen base of the season. Lowe has gone only 2-for-18 since being activated from the injured list June 5 while striking out eight times.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Out against left-hander
Lowe is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Cubs. The Cubs are sending southpaw Justin Steele to the hill in the rubber match, so the left-handed hitting Lowe will begin the game on the bench. Jonny DeLuca is playing right field for the Rays.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Sitting out Monday
Lowe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. Lowe has gone 1-for-11 with five strikeouts at the dish since returning from his second stint on the injured list, so he'll get a day off to regroup. Jose Siri will cover center field and Richie Palacios will man right field for Tampa Bay on Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Taking seat Friday
Lowe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Lowe will get a day off with lefty Cole Irvin on the mound for the O's. Randy Arozarena, Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca will patrol the outfield from left to right Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: On bench vs. southpaw
Lowe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins. Lowe was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday after missing time with an oblique issue, but he's not in the lineup for his first game back since lefty Jesus Luzardo is starting for Miami. Randy Arozarena, Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca will start across the outfield while Harold Ramirez serves as the designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Activated from injured list
The Rays reinstated Lowe (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Tampa Bay is off Monday, but the club went ahead and officially put Lowe back on its active roster ahead of their series against the Marlins, which begins Tuesday. Lowe has been limited to just 14 games this season because of a pair of oblique strains, but he's ready to roll after going 4-for-12 with a triple, three runs and two RBI over three rehab games with Triple-A Durham. He'll likely see most of his playing time in right field for the Rays but could also play some in center.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Tracking toward Tuesday return
Lowe (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game in Miami after he completed a rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham over the weekend, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Lowe went 4-for-12 with a triple, three runs and two RBI over the three-game rehab assignment and played all nine innings in right field in Sunday's contest. The 26-year-old has made a swift recovery from his right oblique strain, a recurrence of a previous injury that had kept him on the shelf for the first five weeks of the season. Once activated, Lowe will likely move between center field, right field and designated hitter while occupying a prominent spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching. Lowe's impending return could result in the likes of Jose Siri and Richie Palacios losing out on playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Aiming to return Tuesday
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Lowe (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham this weekend and hopes to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday versus the Marlins, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Last week, Lowe made his second trip to the IL this season with a right oblique strain. The strain was deemed mild, allowing him to resume baseball activities ahead of this weekend's rehab assignment. If Lowe does indeed return Tuesday, he will have missed just a little more than the minimum 10 days.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Resumes baseball activity
Lowe (oblique) went through a full workout on the field and hit in the batting cage prior to Tuesday's game against the A's, MLB.com reports. Lowe felt good after the work and will now increase the intensity of his activity over the next several days, including hitting against a high-velocity pitching machine and throwing with full intensity. For now, Lowe is expecting to be back from the injured list when first eligible.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Placed on IL with oblique strain
The Rays placed Lowe on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right oblique strain. Lowe left Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness, and an MRI on Thursday revealed an oblique strain for the 26-year-old. Lowe began the year on the IL due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain, and he didn't make his season debut until May 6. The severity of the new oblique strain isn't known, but given that it's on the right side again, Lowe could be on the shelf beyond the 10-day minimum. For his part, Lowe said Saturday that he's hopeful for an abbreviated stay on the shelf, and he expects to resume baseball activities Monday, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. For whatever length of time Lowe misses, Jonny DeLuca, Jose Siri and Richie Palacios should benefit from more playing time in the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Not in Friday's lineup
Lowe (side) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals. The 26-year-old departed Wednesday's contest with a right side strain and was sent for an MRI on Thursday, the results of which remain unknown. Lowe will sit for at least one game and should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Headed for MRI
Lowe will undergo an MRI on his right side Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Manager Kevin Cash labeled Lowe's injury as a "right side strain," though the exact nature of the outfielder's issue will become known once his MRI results come back. Lowe landed on the injured list during spring training due to a right oblique strain and missed the first month-plus of the regular season, and it's possible he could require another stint on the IL due to his latest flareup.... Rays' Josh Lowe: Exits with side tightness
Lowe was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. The Rays are officially marking Lowe as day-to-day, so the team doesn't seem too concerned with his injury. Tampa Bay doesn't play Thursday, which will give the 26-year-old an extra day to rest before potentially returning Friday without missing any games.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Launches first homer of 2024
Lowe went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox. The 26-year-old outfielder connected on his first long ball of 2024 when he took Nick Pivetta deep in the first inning. Lowe is quickly making up for lost time after missing the first month-plus of the season due to an oblique strain, and in seven games since being activated from the IL he's batting .320 (8-for-25) with four doubles and a homer.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Hits in four of five games
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk Sunday against the Yankees. Lowe has appeared in five games since returning from an oblique and hamstring injury, and he's reached base in all four of his starts. He's hit either second or third in the Rays' lineup, though he did sit in the team's only game against a lefty since he was activated.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Takes seat Wednesday
Lowe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The White Sox are bringing a right-hander (Chris Flexen) to the mound, but Flexen has been far more effective against lefties (.314 wOBA) than righties (.372 wOBA) for his career, which likely explains why the lefty-hitting Lowe is on the bench. After being activated from the 10-day injured list Monday, he has gone 3-for-9 with a double through his first two games of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Activated for season debut
The Rays activated Lowe (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Lowe originally went on the IL prior to Opening Day with an oblique strain and more recently dealt with a hamstring issue during his minor-league rehab assignment. He's healthy now after resuming his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham this past Thursday and is finally ready for his 2024 Rays debut following a nearly six-week absence. The 26-year-old had a breakout 2023 campaign with Tampa Bay, hitting 20 home runs and stealing 32 bases.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: Good step in rehab assignment
Lowe (hamstring) went 3-for-8 with two home runs in consecutive rehab appearances for Triple-A Durham on Saturday and Sunday. Since resuming his rehab appearance with Durham on May, Lowe had gone 3-for-14 with seven strikeouts prior to Saturday's game, when he slugged both of his home runs. His ability to hit for power was a positive sign, though he did strike out four times between Saturday and Sunday. Nevertheless, Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Lowe's results were a step in the right direction, per MLB.com. Lowe could be a candidate to return from the 10-day injured list during the Rays' upcoming series with the White Sox that begins Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Josh Lowe: MRI brings positive news
Manager Kevin Cash stated Monday that the news on Lowe's MRI was "pretty good" and the team is monitoring him on a day-to-day basis, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Lowe was expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list over the weekend after recovering from an oblique injury that forced him to miss the first month of the 2024 campaign, but the club pushed the pause button after he felt some tightness in his right hamstring. This update from Cash is vague, so while it seems Lowe has managed to avoid a significant hamstring injury, the team has yet to provide a concrete timetable for the outfielder's return from the injured list....
