BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- It was, as expected, a weird draft. Three guys (Skal Labissiere, Dejounte Murray and Deyonta Davis) fell way below their projected pick range. The international desires hit an all-time first-round high. Adam Silver relished in the booing as any red-blooded commissioner should.

In terms of college hoops, here's the final tally. Thirteen leagues had at least one player selected.

Fun facts and nuggets:

  • Ben Simmons became the third Australian-born player to be taken No. 1, joining Kyrie Irving (2011) and Andrew Bogut (2005). Both of those guys just played in the NBA Finals.
  • Last time Philly had the No. 1 pick? Twenty years ago. Allen Iverson.
  • Buddy Hield is the fourth lottery pick to come from Oklahoma in the past 30 years. The three previous ones were really good: Wayman Tisdale (1985), Stacey King (1989) and Blake Griffin (2009). The last time a guy from the Bahamas was taken this high? 1978. Mychal Thompson.
  • This is fairly shocking: Denzel Valentine going 14th to the Bulls is the highest draft pick for a Michigan State player in 15 years. Jason Richardson went No. 5 in 2001.
  • Jamal Murray is the 14th lottery pick from Kentucky since John Calipari got there. That's an unreal amount of lottery picks over seven season.
  • Jakob Poeltl is the first player from Austria to ever be drafted.
  • Taurean Prince, who went 12th, is only the second lottery pick ever from Baylor. Ekpe Udoh was the first to break through, back in 2010.
  • Tonight, a record 14 players born internationally were taken in the first round. It was far and away the biggest draft for foreign prospects ever.
