Kansas sophomore Carlton Bragg was arrested early Friday and subsequently charged with battery after an incident with his girlfriend. The Class B misdemeanor is punishable by a fine or jail time up to six months, according to a statement released by Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson.

Bragg pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon.

Bond was set at $500.

He has been released from jail.

Bragg's girlfriend called 911 early Friday and accused the 6-foot-10 forward of striking her and pushing her down stairs during an argument. The extent of her injuries is unclear. Bragg's mugshot can be viewed here via the Kansas City Star.

Kansas announced Friday night that Bragg will not play Saturday vs. Nebraska. He is averaging 7.8 points and 5.3 rebounds for the third-ranked Jayhawks.

"Carlton and I have spoken," said Kansas coach Bill Self. "He certainly understands the circumstances surrounding this issue. We are taking this charge very seriously; we're going to hold him out from competition as we continue to gather facts."
