When you're Duke, you sell Duke. When you're UCLA, you sell UCLA. When you're Indiana, you sell Indiana. But what do you sell when you're Rutgers?

What do you do when you're trying to promote Rutgers?

Answer: Tweet pictures of a few UConn greats, apparently.

Predictably, folks poked fun at Rutgers for this because schools don't typically promote themselves by bragging about the success of players who went to other schools, which is why somebody at Rutgers probably should've squashed the idea before it got too far by saying, "You know, that our associate head coach [Karl Hobbs) used to be an assistant at a place where Andre Drummond played one season probably doesn't mean much."

Alas, that did not happen.

So the Rutgers jokes came fast.

More than anything, though, the misguided tweet should highlight the challenges facing first-year coach Steve Pikiell, and it's a reminder why other men -- most notably Rhode Island's Dan Hurley -- passed on the opportunity to coach the Scarlet Knights. Simply put, this is a hard job with no history. There's very little for Pikiell and his staff to sell to recruits other than hope. So they decided to sell ... Steven Adams ... because, you know, Rutgers assistant Brandin Knight was on staff at Pitt during the one season Adams played there.

Again, I wouldn't have done it.

Bad tweet, undeniably.

But this is a program that's 3-33 in league games since moving to the Big Ten. So a slightly embarrassing tweet is probably the least of anybody's problems.
