Texas A&M's Billy Kennedy receives two-year extension
Billy Kennedy will be at Texas A&M through the 2018 season.
Texas A&M hasn’t reached the NCAA Tournament under Billy Kennedy yet, but the Aggies are making strides on the court and in the recruiting world.
And on Wednesday, Kennedy received a two-year contract extension from the university.
“Coach Kennedy understands our commitment to building champions both in the classroom and in competition,” athletic director Eric Hyman said. “Our basketball program has made tremendous strides academically under Billy’s leadership, while he has also raised the overall on-court talent level of our student-athletes. Our ultimate goal is to build the Texas A&M basketball program the right way, with a foundation for sustained postseason success.”
Kennedy has won 18 games each of the past two seasons with Texas A&M, reaching the CBI in 2013-14. In three seasons at the helm in College Station, Kennedy is 50-49 overall. He went 4-14 in the Big 12 in his debut season, and 15-21 in the SEC the past two campaigns.
He is building a solid foundation, though. He recently landed 2015 center Tyler Davis, one of the best post players in the class. Schools like Kansas and Arizona were in the mix for Davis before he chose Texas A&M. Alex Robinson, a top-75 prospect that could start at point guard immediately, highlights the freshman class entering the program this season. Moreover, the Aggies landed talented Houston transfer Danuel House, who is waiting on a waiver to play immediately.
“I want to thank Eric Hyman, the university, and the Board for recognizing that we are on the verge of building something special here at A&M,” Kennedy said. “Exciting times are coming for Aggie Basketball. I can't wait for the season.”
Kennedy is now set at Texas A&M through the 2018 season.
