The Naismith Hall of Fame released an updated watch list for the Bob Cousy Award -- or the 2015 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award presented by the College of the Holy Cross -- on Friday. The award is given annually to the top point guard in men's basketball, and the 17 names on the list should come as no surprise to most fans who follow the sport.
The original list included 35 names, and the current list will be narrowed down to five players by early March before a winner is announced in April.
T.J. McConnell, University of Arizona
Tyrone Wallace, University of California, Berkeley
Kyle Collinsworth, Brigham Young University
Ryan Boatright, University of Connecticut
Tyus Jones, Duke University
Kevin Pangos, Gonzaga University
Keifer Sykes, University of Wisconsin, Green Bay
Yogi Ferrell, Indiana University
Monte Morris, Iowa State University
Terry Rozier, University of Louisville
Romelo Trimble, University of Maryland
Marcus Paige, University of North Carolina
Kris Dunn, Providence College
Delon Wright, University of Utah
Nigel Williams-Goss, University of Washington
Juwan Staten, West Virginia University
Fred VanVleet, Wichita State University
While breakout stars Tyus Jones and Melo Trimble headline the final watch list of the season, it should be noted that none of the winners from the last decade have been first-year players. If the Cousy Award voters end up favoring experience, the odds are better for Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos or Utah's Delon Wright.
Providence sophomore Kris Dunn could be a sleeper pick, leading the Friars in a sneaky-good season in the Big East this year and, likely, back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time since 1989-90.
