Alabama linebacker Tim Williams was arrested by university police and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, according to Alabama's Rivals site, TideSports.com.

Williams was reportedly booked into a jail at 2:09 a.m. and released on bond.

AL.com reports that Williams was arrested in the parking lot of Publix at 2 a.m. Police officers on patrol smelled marijuana coming from Williams car, though the passenger in the car claimed it belonged to him. Police did find a pistol under Williams' seat while searching the car.

A senior, WIlliams is one of Alabama's best defensive players and an important part of the Tide's pass rushing attack. Currently, CBS Sports has Williams listed as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Williams seemed to address the misstep in a Twitter post after his release, writing "Thank god a mistake worth learning from."

Alabama hosts Kentucky on Saturday.
