Alabama's offseason took a turn for the worse on Tuesday morning when starting left tackle Cam Robinson and Laurence 'Hootie' Jones were arrested and booked for possession of marijuana and weapons charges in Louisiana.
According to the police booking information, Robinson was charged with two misdemeanors, possession and illegal carrying of a weapon, as well as felony possession of stolen firearms. Jones was charged with just the two misdemeanors.
The two were booked at 3:36 a.m. on Tuesday morning by police in West Monroe, Louisiana, and released. Jones was released on no bond and Robinson on $750 bond.
According to the police affidavit, the two were pulled over and asked to step out of the vehicle after the officer smelled marijuana and saw Jones in the passenger's seat with a gun in his lap. When the car was searched, officers found a bag of marijuana on the floorboard "in plain view" as well as "a stolen handgun under the seat."
Robinson, a rising junior, has started on the Alabama offensive line since he was a freshman and the left tackle earned first-team, All-SEC honors after a strong 2015 campaign. Jones had nine tackles in 2015 as a reserve defensive back, but was expected to receive more playing time in 2016.
Alabama coach Nick Saban released a statement saying the team is "aware of the situation involving Hootie Jones and Cam Robinson and are in the process of gathering facts to determine what internal action needs to be taken."
