If you like offense, Week 8 was for you. CBS Sports' Players of the Week honors reflect that.

Though our National Player of the Week put up his numbers in a loss -- that's the Big 12 for you -- our SEC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week had monster games in a pair of convincing wins. With the second half of the season in full swing, check out whose performances shined above the rest.

National Player of the Week

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Yes, we're fully aware Mahomes did his damage in a losing effort, but it is impossible to ignore 819 yards -- 734 passing and 85 rushing -- and seven touchdowns in a 66-59 game against Oklahoma. Mahomes accounted for 96 percent of his team's yards -- 96! -- and broke the FBS records for yards in a game. Among the other records broken were school passing attempts (88) and the conference record for completions (50). Texas Tech may not be a great team, but Mahomes is a rare physical talent who thrives in the Air Raid system.

SEC Player of the Week

Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

Welcome back to college football, Leonard. The star running back broke loose for school-record 284 yards in a 38-21 win over Ole Miss on just 16 carries. It was Fournette's first appearance since missing about month due to a nagging ankle injury. Fournette probably isn't back up to 100 percent yet, but he still showed off breakaway speed and punishing power, both of which were on display in the highlight of Week 8:

Freshman of the Week

Ben Hicks, QB, SMU

Hey, when you help your team pull the upset of the weekend -- a 38-16 surprise win over Houston -- you get Freshman of the Week honors. Hicks was a good-not-great 16 of 31 for 228 yards through the air, but he had three passing touchdowns to go along with a rushing score. Hicks has 1,512 passing yards on the year and has gone two games in a row without throwing an interception. And SMU has the signature win it needed to boost the program forward.
