Florida State vs. Miami score: No. 4 'Noles hold off 'Canes, clinch first 10-win regular season since 2015

No. 4 Florida State survived a late challenge from rival Miami for a 27-20 victory at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. The Seminoles won their third straight against the Hurricanes to move to 10-0 and clinch their first 10-win regular season since 2015.

Florida State struggled to run the ball against Miami, mustering just 1.8 yards per carry against an aggressive Hurricanes defensive front. However, wide receiver Keon Coleman flipped the game with a 57-yard punt return into Miami territory. Three plays later, he brought down a contested catch for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown.

Miami brought in freshman quarterback Emory Williams to start in place of Tyler Van Dyke against the Seminoles, and he was inconsistent. The three-star prospect in the 2023 class completed just 8 of 23 passes but threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns including an 85-yard scoring strike to Jacolby George.

  • Running back Trey Benson was a bright spot for the Seminoles on offense, breaking off a 38-yard rush and scoring two touchdowns.
  • Florida State, already having clinched a berth in the ACC Championship Game, is still on track for a trip to the College Football Playoff.
  • Williams suffered an injury on his final play while stretching for a first down. Incumbent starter Van Dyke came into the game but threw an interception on fourth down to help seal the win for the Seminoles.

Tough injury

Miami quarterback Emory Williams needed major medical attention after stretching for the first-down marker on fourth down with only 2:43 remaining. Williams was hit as he fell to the turf and needed his playcalling wristband cut off and an air cast attached to his left arm. The true freshman made the line to gain, and will now be replaced in the lineup by former starter Tyler Van Dyke. Miami has the ball with 2:43 remaining.

Coleman with the finisher

4Q: Florida State 27, Miami 13

Florida State stalled after starting in the red zone, but Keon Coleman refused to leave without a touchdown. Coleman was interfered with in the end zone, but pushed a Miami defender to the side to make a circus catch on the sideline. The Seminoles are up 14 points late, and that might be enough.

Coleman swings game

Florida State returner Keon Coleman swung the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Coleman ran through a tackle and ripped off a 57-yard return that gave the Seminoles the ball in the red zone with a chance to take a two-possession lead. Coleman hasn't been much of a factor in the passing game after returning from injury, but FSU needed that play desperately.

No. 4 Florida State is locked in a tight 20-13 battle with Miami at the end of the third quarter of their matchup at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. Quarterback Jordan Travis has thrown for 243 yards, but has yet to find the end zone as the Hurricanes hope to survive a challenge from the in-state rival.

The Seminoles gave up a late field goal to end the first half to tie the game and later attempted an onside kick that led to a Hurricanes field goal. However, Florida State has responded since the lull, going on a 10-0 run to take the lead heading into the final frame. Miami has not beaten Florida State in Tallahassee since 2019. A loss could have devastating consequences for Florida State's chances to earn a trip to the College Football Playoff.
