Few FBS programs have been hammered by the injury bug like Maryland in recent years, but this has the potential to be the most devastating injury the Terps have faced in some time.

The school announced Friday night that cornerback and do-it-all player Will Likely will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Likely, a senior, sustained his injury last weekend against Minnesota.

"In the short time I've been here at Maryland, I understand and have a great appreciation for the significant impact Will Likely has had on our football program," coach D.J. Durkin said in a statement. "Will was one of the first people I met with when I accepted this job and it was quickly apparent how much he meant to his teammates and Maryland football."

Likely was a cornerback first, but an electrifying return man with six kickoff or punt returns for a touchdown in his career. Last season, he finished second nationally in punt return yards per game and fourth in kick return yardage per game. He also contributed on offense in both the rushing game and as a receiver.

Likely could have skipped his final season in college to play in the NFL, but eschewed that opportunity to come back and improve on his game. However, he's been contained more on punt returns this year.

Likely was a solid defender and potential game-changer on special teams. Though small in stature at 5-foot-7 and 175 pounds, he was one of the most versatile and dangerous weapons in the Big Ten. His absence will be felt for the Terps.
