The good news for Oklahoma just keeps rolling following a 38-20 win over Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 championship. Speaking to reporters after the game, Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield announced he was coming back for his final season in 2017.

Mayfield, classified as a redshirt junior by Oklahoma, was initially entering his final year of eligibility this season -- at least in the Big 12. Over the summer, the Big 12 voted against a rule that would allow walk-ons, which Mayfield was, to transfer within the conference without losing a season of eligibility. Mayfield transferred from Texas Tech to Oklahoma following the 2013 season, his freshman year. However, the Big 12 overturned that rule the next day.

Had they not overturned it, Mayfield would have been able to pursue a fifth year in college elsewhere, just not in the Big 12.

Mayfield finishes the 2016 regular season with 3,669 yards passing and 38 touchdowns. He finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting last year, but could still make the trip to New York this time around.
