Cubs part ways with Mathes

The Cubs released SP J.R. Mathes on Friday and promoted Marco Carrillo from Double-A Tennessee to Triple-A Iowa. Mathes went 2-4 with a 9.07 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Iowa.
